Dev Deepawali
Dev Deepawali is one of the most magnificent and spiritually
significant festivals celebrated in Varanasi.
Observed on Kartik Purnima, fifteen days after Diwali,
this festival is dedicated to the divine descent of the gods to the sacred
city of Kashi.
On the evening of Dev Deepawali, the ghats of the River Ganga
are illuminated with thousands of earthen lamps (diyas),
creating a breathtaking spectacle of light and devotion.
The entire riverfront glows with reflections of lamps, chants,
and spiritual energy.
Devotees believe that on this auspicious night, the gods descend to bathe in
the holy Ganga. Pilgrims perform sacred rituals, take a holy dip,
and offer prayers seeking blessings, peace, and spiritual purification.
The celebration is accompanied by grand Ganga Aarti,
devotional music, Vedic chanting, and cultural performances.
Fireworks and illuminated boats further enhance the festive atmosphere,
making Dev Deepawali a truly unforgettable experience.
Recognized as a major cultural and tourism event,
Dev Deepawali attracts visitors from across India and around the world.
It beautifully showcases the spiritual heritage, artistic traditions,
and timeless charm of Varanasi.
