Festivals & Events
Varanasi is a city where spirituality and celebration go hand in hand.
Throughout the year, the city comes alive with vibrant festivals, religious
rituals, cultural performances, and traditional fairs that reflect its
deep-rooted heritage and devotion.
One of the most spectacular events is Dev Deepawali, celebrated
fifteen days after Diwali. On this occasion, thousands of earthen lamps light
up the ghats of the River Ganga, creating a breathtaking spiritual and visual
spectacle.
Mahashivratri is celebrated with great fervor in Varanasi, honoring
Lord Shiva, the city’s presiding deity. Devotees throng the
Kashi Vishwanath Temple and participate in night-long prayers and
processions.
The famous Ganga Mahotsav showcases the cultural richness of the city
through classical music, dance performances, crafts exhibitions, and local
cuisine, attracting artists and visitors from across the country.
Other important festivals include Diwali, Holi,
Dussehra, Makar Sankranti, and
Nag Nathaiya, each celebrated with unique local traditions and
rituals.
Apart from religious festivals, Varanasi also hosts classical music concerts,
literary gatherings, and spiritual discourses throughout the year, making it a
dynamic destination for cultural and spiritual tourism.
